The Untimely and Unexpected

Updated: Jan 19, 2018

Out of all the things I’ve tried to accomplish and achieve in this life the most precious gifts are the ones given by Gods hand and spiritual intervention. The events, children, ministries that interjected my life are my most prized possessions. So why do we strive to plot, plan and devise our own path and events in life when the best gifts are out of our control? We know from our past that the most amazing gifts are untimely, unexpected and miraculous. Our greatest achievements and happenings in life are the unplanned so let’s put down our pens, lists, and notes and start living and expecting the beautiful unexpected drama only God can create.

Proverbs 20:24 A persons steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?

The most valuable people, events, situations have been the life altering, out of my control, meteor type God given happenstance.

The events I planned on my own, dreams, ministries I tried to create, all were a bust. What began as a spark, turned to a fizzle, only later to fade.

But as I recall and think back on the events in which dropped like meteors, I see the moments where God dipped His big hand into our atmosphere and blessed me (even though some did not feel like gifts) with people and events.

I feel like we try to create a life, people, events, careers but if you look back on your life you will realize the coolest, most amazing things have happened completely out of your control.

You may think you chose the right time to conceive your child, finish your degree, marry the love of your life…but God is the Father of time who allowed such a moment for all things taking place.

My hope is that you take your hands off of your life. Allow God to have full control. Let "Jesus take the wheel." As hard as it is to let go, give Him the reigns, you need to remember that the best times and events that have happened in your life is the God moments when there was bottom line, absolutely no explanation.

What events were obvious God-given meteor moments in your life?

It’s cool to make a list and reflect on the gifts, moments, events that landed with a force into your own life.

My meteor moments include my Tony who boldly approached me in math class, the gifts of our daughters, the gift of two little boys and adoption (that landed

like a fireball), completing my Bible degree, and many ministries in which God had obvious control.

Full surrender to God is the critical lesson for each of us every single day. Instead of creating, building, constructing a life, ministries, careers, a family and pursuing dreams on your own, consult the giver of life, the One who has you inscribed on the palm of His mighty giving hand (Isaiah 49:16).
